Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center held Meeting with the Arab Publishers Union and Regional Federation Presidents

In conjunction with its participation in the 2024 Cairo International Book Fair, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center convened a meeting with the Arab Publishers Union and presidents of regional federations. The meeting addressed issues concerning the Arab publishing industry, emphasizing the importance of Arabic language presence, fostering Arab publishing, and promoting creative industries.

Among the attendees were HE Dr. Ali bin Tamim, President of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center, Sa’eed Hamdan Al Tenaiji, the Center’s Executive Director, Mohammed Rashad, President of the Arab Publishers Union, Bashar Shbaro, Secretary-General of the Arab Publishers Union, Saeed Abdo, President of the Egyptian Publishers Union, as well as several heads and representatives of publishing entities including Samira Assi, President of the Lebanese Publishers Syndicate, Sameh Dandis, President of the Palestinian Publishers, Haitham Hafez, President of the Syrian Publishers Union, Jabr Abu Fares, President of the Jordanian Publishers Union, Dr. Mohamed Saleh Al-Mouallaghi, Vice President of the Tunisian Publishers Union, and Yasser Meziane, Secretary-General of the Algerian Publishers Union.

HE Dr. Ali bin Tamim outlined his vision for the Arab publishing landscape, highlighting its evolution and prosperity amidst challenges and difficult circumstances. He emphasized the Center’s commitment to supporting cultural initiatives, particularly in the publishing sector, to elevate the status of the Arabic language and book industry. This commitment is evident annually through the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which welcomes Arab publishers from around the world.

Regarding the UAE’s interest in the Arab publishing industry and creative industries, he stated, “In the UAE, we view the publishing industry not as a narrow local endeavor but as a form of integration with various Arab publishers and institutions.” He emphasized the UAE’s efforts, under wise leadership, to activate initiatives and support plans for publishers and sector workers, ensuring the preservation of Arab cultural identity and the continuation of creative contributions across various fields.

Mohammed Rashad, President of the Arab Publishers Union, commended the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center’s role in supporting the Arab publishing industry and creative sectors, noting its significant contributions through projects that enhance Arab content and provide necessary expertise for publishers’ development through professional programs and initiatives.

Additionally, the participating federation presidents praised the Center’s efforts in strengthening Arab identity and supporting the publishing industry as a cornerstone of culture. They lauded the Center’s initiatives in language support, positioning, and the development of strategies to advance cultural, creative, and educational domains within the Arab cultural landscape.

The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center will also convene with the International Publishers Union and a large number of foreign publishers to discuss collaboration opportunities aimed at advancing the publishing industry and enhancing the international presence of the Center’s projects.
