The Royal Commission for Al-Ula announces the ‘Al-Ula Art Residency’ gathering global artists in 2024. In collaboration with the French Agency for Al-Ula Development (AFalula), the program for the current year, 2024, includes six distinct programs, with five dedicated to artistic residency and the sixth for alumni. These programs cover visual arts, design, arts, botany, agriculture, garden coordination, heritage, and innovation, all with extended durations.

International artists and designers participate in the Al-Ula Art Residency, a platform encouraging exploration of Al-Ula’s potential, aiming to elevate its status as a global hub for creative minds. The participants in the visual arts program include artists from France, Australia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, and South Africa, such as Hugo Servanin, Joel Spring, Meithaa Abdullah, Reem Al-Naser, Marlon de Azambuja, and the duo Bianca Bondi and Joelam Bousse.

The design residency features Bahraini-Danish group ‘Bahraini Densh,’ ‘Hole House,’ and ‘Leo Orta’ from France, ‘Raw Materials Studio’ from India, and ‘Leen Ajlan’ from Saudi Arabia.

Long-term residencies include Ayman Zidani and Tarek Attoui from Saudi Arabia and Grzegorz Chatonski from France.

The Head of Creative Opportunities at the Royal Commission for Al-Ula, Ali Al-Ghazawi, emphasizes that the Al-Ula Art Residency program certifies Al-Ula’s commitment as a global and vibrant creative destination, offering diverse scenes inspired by nature and history.

Arnaud Morand, Head of Innovation and Creativity at the French Agency for Al-Ula Development (AFalula), states that the Al-Ula Art Residency program provides insight into societal interactions and practical frameworks for artists to purposefully integrate themselves, serving as a foundational pillar in the arts field.

Notably, artworks from Al-Ula residency programs will be showcased at the Al-Ula Arts Festival from February 9 to March 2, 2024, providing a glimpse into the diverse and rich creations resulting from the visual arts and design programs.
