National Libraries Urged to Join Arab-Chinese Digital Library

The 5th session of the Arab-Chinese Digital Library and Information Experts hosted at the King Abdulaziz Public Library (KAPL) in Riyadh, concluded with a commitment to strengthen collaboration among national libraries in Arab countries. The meeting took place within the framework of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF), focusing on the theme “Library Services Transformation Given Changing of Information Environment.”

Deputy Foreign Minister Eng. Waleed bin Abdulkarim El-Kheraiji inaugurated the two-day meeting on Tuesday, joined by KAPL General Supervisor Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muammar, Arab League ambassador Hala Jad, and experts from both Arab and Chinese domains.

The concluding statement highlighted the importance of activating the joint executive committee of the Arab-Chinese Digital Library. This committee, composed of representatives from the Secretariat-General of the Arab League, the National Library of China, and KAPL, serves as a permanent mechanism to enhance coordination and provide ongoing support to the collaborative project.

Emphasizing inclusivity, the statement called upon national libraries in Arab countries that have not yet joined the Arab-Chinese Digital Library to participate in the cultural initiative and contribute to enriching its content.

Attendees expressed appreciation for KAPL’s role in hosting the current meeting and acknowledged its dedicated efforts in fortifying Arab-Chinese cultural cooperation. The decision to convene the next 6th meeting of the Arab-Chinese Library and Information Experts in China was warmly welcomed, further cementing the commitment to ongoing collaboration between the two regions. The meeting centered on the evolving landscape of library services in response to the dynamic changes in the information environment. This thematic focus underscored the shared commitment of Arab and Chinese library and information professionals to adapt and innovate in the rapidly transforming field.
