Adania Shibli

Adania Shibli, a Palestinian writer based in Berlin. She has distinguished herself in the literary world with her compelling works. Her novels “Touch” and “We Are All Equally Far from Love” earned her the Young Writer’s Award from the Qattan Foundation on two separate occasions. However, her recognition at the Frankfurt Book Fair was controversially withdrawn due to the fair’s administration’s full support of Israel. She was to receive the prestigious Litprom Award for her novel “Minor Detail,” an honor bestowed by the German Literary Association Litprom.

Adania Shibli’s life journey began in Palestine in 1974. She moved to Berlin, where she continues to reside. In 2009, she achieved a significant academic milestone by earning her Ph.D. from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of East London. Her dissertation, titled “Visual Terror: A Study of the Visual Compositions of the 9/11 Attacks and Major Attacks in the ‘War on Terror’ by British and French Television Networks,” offered a critical analysis of media representations during these significant global events.

Since 2013, Adania Shibli has been imparting her knowledge and insights as a visiting professor in the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies at Birzeit University. Adania Shibli’s literary portfolio is diverse and impactful.

Her works include:

1- “Touch,” published by Dar Al-Adab in 2001.

2- “We Are All Equally Far from Love,” released by Clockroot Books in 2004.

3- “Minor Detail,” released in 2017.

Furthermore, she has contributed to several collaborative works, including “A Journey of Ideas Across: In Dialog with Edward Said,” “Mona Hatoum: Terra Infirma,” and others.

Shibli’s prowess as a novelist has been recognized with two awards for her novels “Touch” and “We Are All Equally Far from Love” in the Young Writer’s competition by the Qattan Foundation in 2001 and 2003, respectively. Additionally, her novel “Minor Detail” was shortlisted for the prestigious International Booker Prize by the Man Booker Foundation in London in 2021, showcasing her international acclaim and literary excellence.
