Ali Al-Shadawi

Ali Jamaan Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, known as “Ali Al-Shadawi,” is a Saudi critic and novelist, born in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1964 AD.

Ali Al-Shadawi attended Umm Al-Qura University, where he graduated specializing in Arabic literature. He then worked as a teacher in higher education schools and later as an educational inspector. Additionally, he served as a teacher and researcher at the Research and Production Center affiliated with Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of Djibouti for four years.

He supervised the team responsible for writing Arabic language books for elementary and intermediate school students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is also a founding member, along with others, of the Criticism Dialogue Group and the Jeddah Criticism Group.

Ali Al-Shadawi writes for several Saudi and Arab magazines and newspapers. He contributed regularly to Okaz newspaper and Al-Hayat newspaper between 2010 and 2015.

Ali Al-Shadawi also participated in supervisory scientific committees for literary conferences such as the Text Forum at the Jeddah Literary Club. He also took part in training programs organized by the Arabic Language Department and delivered educational and cultural lectures at educational conferences and literary clubs in cities including Jeddah, Riyadh, and Jazan.

He has authored numerous novels and studies focusing on Saudi society, among the most prominent are:

He won many awards, including:
Al-Baha Creativity and Excellence Award in its fourth edition, specifically in the Short Story Writing category, for his story “Sweetness: In its Laughter, Jesting, and Sorrow” in 2017.
