Saad Albazei

Renowned for his critical analysis of Arabic culture, Saad Al-Bazie is a prominent Saudi intellectual, who emphasizes cultural interplay. Hailing from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 1953, Al-Bazie began his education there, earning a Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1983.

Holding influential roles, he served in the Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia and as a professor at King Saud University, Riyadh. Editor-in-chief of The Global Arabic Encyclopedia and Riyadh Daily, Saad Al-Bazie has had a distinguished career in journalism and academia. He has presided over the Riyadh Literary Club and joined the Shura Council after retiring from academia.

Saad Al-Bazie  is scholarly contributions are vast, encompassing several volumes of literary criticism and analysis, notably winning the Saudi Ministry of Culture’s Book of the Year Prize in 2011 for “Languages of Poetry: Poems and Readings.” Moreover, he chaired the 2014 Arabic Booker Prize judging panel and edited the 30-volume Global Arabic Encyclopedia. Albazie’s English publications span various topics, from contemporary poetry to cultural intersections, reaching international audiences in Arab countries, Germany, Sweden, and the USA.

Saad Al-Bazie’s Arabic publications are equally significant, addressing diverse themes like desert culture, literary criticism, identity, globalization, cultural interaction, and the Jewish influence in Western civilization. Esteemed journals, including a review in the Foreign Policy journal of the US State Department, have recognized his work. Additionally, Albazie has translated notable works such as “Muslims in American History” by Jerald Dirx and “Globalectics” by Ngugi wa Thiong’o into Arabic.

Prof. Saad Albazie, a respected figure, has contributed to conferences internationally, lecturing in countries like the USA, Japan, and Germany. He enriched discussions at significant events, including addressing the UNESCO conference on languages in Paris in 2009. Continues to enrich the intellectual landscape through articles in Saudi newspapers and academic journals, sharing profound insights into cultural dynamics.
