Samir Qasimi

Samir Qasimi is a versatile Algerian novelist with a Bachelor’s degree in Law. He has dabbled in various professions, including practicing law, cultural editing, and governmental writing. He also distinguished himself as a copy editor in journalism, engaging closely with the intellectual community. Among his achievements, his novel “The Dreamer” made it to the long list for the Sheikh Zayed Book Award in 2014. Extracts from his novel “In Love With a Barren Woman” were translated and featured in Banipal Magazine. His novel “A Splendid Day for Death” was the first Algerian work to make it to the long list for the International Prize for Arabic Fiction in 2009. He is also known for his cultural activism and for founding several significant literary forums and seminars. He wins Hashemi Saidani Award for the best first Algerian novel for “Declaration of Loss” and Assia Djebar Grand Prize for the best Algerian novel for “The Book of Whatever”.
