Cinema Nights: “Beyond the Mountain,” directed by Mohamed Ben Attia, offers a blend of fantasy and adventure with a powerful message of liberation from the constraints of reality.

Rafik, portrayed by the compelling Majd Mastoura, emerges as a desperate individual. Recently released from a Tunisian prison after a four-year stint for vandalizing his former workplace, Rafik becomes convinced of his ability to fly. Despite facing skepticism from his family, particularly his young son Yassine, Rafik remains determined to prove the authenticity of his vision.

The narrative unfolds as Rafik takes Yassine out of school and embarks on a journey to the mountains, seeking refuge in a bourgeois family’s country house. However, it becomes evident that Rafik’s mental state is fragile, leaving the audience to ponder whether his belief in flight is genuine or a product of his unstable psyche.

Director Mohamed Ben Attia skillfully navigates between reality and illusion, keeping viewers engaged as they contemplate Rafik’s extraordinary claims. Through a nuanced portrayal by Mastoura, Rafik’s character emerges as both persuasive and dignified, inviting audiences to delve deeper into the complexities of the human psyche and the power of belief.
