KACST writers react to the announcement of the Literature Commission for the initiative of research studies in children’s and young adult literature

Intellectuals and those interested in publishing and literature in Medina have expressed interest in the recent announcement by the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission of the “Research Studies Initiative in Children’s and Young People’s Literature” in support of the research community and stimulate the production of specialized works.

At the outset, the writer and poet Dr. Shteiwi Al-Ghaithi said in his speech to Mal: I think that the research grants initiative in children’s and young adult literature will be important in activating the research, critical and literary movement alike because it sheds light on this category of society, whose literature may have been effective at specific levels, but it will be with this initiative more effective as it will enrich the Saudi library with many research and studies that are concerned with children’s literature, and this for its part will enhance writing for children. by a lot of writers.

 

Poet and writer Marwan Al-Muzaini, who is interested in writing for children, added: “The Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission continues to prove to the cultural arena its seriousness in activating realistic programs that will promote literature, especially children’s literature, which has suffered greatly from poor production and quality of outputs.”

 

Al-Muzaini believes that the initiative of research studies in children’s and adolescent literature is a strong step that helps create content worthy of children’s culture and their ability to integrate culturally into society in all types of literature, including story, play, poetry and recitation.

Marwan Al-Muzaini said that the Literature Commission provides incentives and awards through these initiatives to be a driving step to revive children’s and adolescent literature through the public and private sectors and encourage researchers and those interested in this field.

For his part, writer and poet Muhammad Awadallah Al-Omari pointed out that writing in this literary field is not as easy as some may imagine because the world of children and adolescents needs a researcher who understands their environment and everything related to it, adding that such cultural initiatives by the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission gain importance by stimulating writing for this segment and filling a void that the literature arena suffers from.

For her part, Shahd bint Mohammed bin Musaad Al-Mikhlafi, author of the book The World of Childhood (Stories and Tales), believes that children’s and young people’s literature represents a cultural tributary that addresses the minimum ages from five to eighteen years, noting that the launch of such a research initiative in children’s and adolescent literature represents a promising renaissance in this literary field.

Al-Mikhlafi stressed that we urgently need to motivate our Saudi writers and writers in order to upgrade this type of writing, which has long suffered from poor content and lack of production, which confirms the interest in this plant, which will leaf, bloom and bear fruit for generations who will be building blocks in the edifice of the future of our beloved Saudi homeland.

This initiative finds among its objectives to highlight the social aspects and the problems of childhood and adolescents and try to find solutions to these problems and then form a generation free of defects and mental illnesses.

 

We must scrutinize the cultural content and educational product provided to our children through this initiative, so it is not necessary to look at the quantity provided as much as this quantity contains.

In order to achieve the desired goal of this initiative and enrich the literature of children and adolescents, Al-Mikhlafi pointed to the importance of supporting those activities provided in prose, poetry, novel and intellectual book suitable for the age stage, in addition to raising the quality of works.

Finally, she hoped that the award would be an attraction for young writers and authors and motivate them to provide their finest cultural product that achieves ambitions.

It is expected that the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission will provide ten research grants under the supervision of a specialized scientific committee and the publication will be through conferences and scientific journals. The deadline for applying for the initiative will be September 4, 2023 – September 23, 2023.

The conditions for applying for the initiative grant stated that the applicant must be a Saudi national, attach the researcher’s CV, prepare a proposed summary of the research, and fill out the form designated for the grant.

It is noteworthy that the initiative of research studies in children’s and adolescent literature aims to enrich libraries with research on children’s and adolescent literature, support activities related to children’s and adolescent literature, stimulate the production of works on children’s and adolescent literature, in addition to raising the quality of works on children’s and adolescent literature.
