Kalemat, the leading publishing house, is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its establishment in Dubai, with the presence of Arab authors and influencers from February 29th, over a continuous period of 5 days.

The celebration comes under the title: “Kalemat Cultural Festival… A Decade of Words”, kicking off at 6:00 PM on February 29th.

The Kalemat Cultural Festival is scheduled to be held at Kalemat Library (Dubai) in Box Park – Al Wasl Street. The schedule of events during the festival is as follows:

March 1st – 5:00 PM

Seminar Title: The Voice of Arab Literature in China
Speaker: Yara Al-Masri
An Egyptian translator who studied the Chinese language, she has published stories, and poetic texts, and translated studies from Chinese into Arabic in various magazines and newspapers.

March 1st – 7:00 PM

Seminar Title: The Power and Aesthetics of Evil in Narrative

Badriah Al-Beshr:
A Saudi writer and novelist, she was the first Arab woman to win the Best Columnist Award in 2011 at the Arab Journalism Awards. She was also listed by “CEO” magazine among the top 100 most powerful Arab women for 2013.
Abdullah Al-Basais:
A Kuwaiti poet and novelist, a member of the Kuwaiti Writers Association, has participated in many cultural seminars and events outside and within Kuwait.

March 2nd – 5:00 PM

Lecture Title: The Novel: Scenes and Voices

Saleha Obaid:
An Emirati writer, a member of the Dubai Culture and Science Council, won the Emirates Youth Award in the Creative Writing category in 2017.
Ahmed Mourad:
An Egyptian writer who began his career in 2007 with his first novel “Vertigo”, followed by several novels including “Diamond Dust”, “The Blue Elephant”, “1919”, “Land of God”, “Deer Hunting Season”, and “Lukanda Bir al-Watawit”.

March 2nd – 7:00 PM

Lecture Title: Journeys of Mud City
Saud Al-Sanousi:
A Kuwaiti writer who won the Arabic Booker Prize in 2013 for his novel “The Bamboo Stalk”. He won first place in the short story competition for the story “Bonsai and the Old Man” by Al-Arabi magazine.

March 4th – 5:00 PM

Lecture Title: The Anxiety of Knowledge
Rafiah Ghabash:
An Emirati psychiatrist, former president of the Arabian Gulf University in Bahrain, and president of the Arab Network for Women in Science and Technology.
Saad Al-Bazie:
A Saudi researcher and critic, he holds a PhD in English literature. A member of the Saudi Shura Council, he has several publications in Arabic literature.

March 4th – 7:30 PM

Lecture Title: Liquid Expressions in Social Media
Hala Kazem:
An Emirati entrepreneur was awarded the Best Arab Influencer in Social Media from the Hospitality Festival “2022”.
