On its second day, the sessions of the “Reading the Text 19” forum, organized by the Literary and Cultural Club in Jeddah, in cooperation with the University of Business and Technology, under the title “The Literary and Critical Movement of Cultural Salons in the Kingdom”, continued on its second day in the fifth session, which began this morning (Thursday) February 16, 2023, under the management of Dr. Ahmed Saeed Al-Adwani.

The participation of Dr. Abdullah Hamed witnessed a paper on “Weekly Council of Prince Khalid Al-Faisal in Asir from Witness to Testimonies” in the context of which he recalled the weekly sessions held by Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, former Governor of Asir Region, in his Majlis weekly in the city of Abha, pointing out that the sessions varied between the session of scholars, judges, and owners of Sharia specialties, on Saturday, writers, intellectuals and university professors on Sunday, and the session of tribal sheikhs on Monday, and the session of heads of government departments on Tuesday, focusing in his paper on the sessions of On Sunday, dedicated to writers, intellectuals and university professors, he evoked two basic structures for the owner of the Council, namely the structure of the «intellectual» and the structure of the «Emirate», pointing out that they are structures that pose questions about the extent of the impact of each of them on the Cultural Council and its dialogues, by evoking the memory of the owner of the Council, and the testimonies monitored by the audience.

Dr. Bashaer Al-Senini presented in her paper “The Social and Civilizational Implications of Cultural Salons between the Past and the Present”, by clarifying the role played by cultural salons in the societies in which they grew up, ancient and modern, and their importance in transferring awareness to advanced stages, through the discussions and social or literary dialogues that take place among the visitors of these salons, analyzing ideas and phenomena and dismantling them by discussing the historical roots of cultural salons, the pioneering presence of women throughout the ages in literary salons, and the message that The literary salon is based on it, the features of the societies in which cultural salons are formed, the different types of cultural salons according to the role they play, the impact that cultural salons have had socially, literarily and intellectually, ancient and modern, and the social and civilizational connotations for the establishment and continuity of cultural and literary salons. Pure from that to a set of recommendations based on extrapolating the reality of the clubs currently and foreseeing their future.

Dr. Omar bin Abdulaziz Al-Mahmoud commented in his paper on “the impact of literary salons in shaping the cultural movement in the Kingdom”, pointing out that despite the multiplicity of literary clubs and their spread in our beloved country, private salons have remained a regulator of the relations of writers and intellectuals, although they do not form specific artistic or intellectual currents, they have continued to perform multiple functions and achieve important goals in addition to cultural tasks, pointing out that the most important characteristic of these salons is that their owners are the ones who develop their own vision and direction, there are Those who chose to specialize in poetry and literature, and some preferred to be open to all fields, and there are salons that were interested in celebrating and honoring successful people. In his paper, he tries to examine the impact that cultural salons have formed on the Saudi cultural movement, tracing the features and characteristics they added to the literary scene in the Kingdom, and revealing the role played by cultural councils and salons in reviving the literary movement and diversifying cultural practices among writers and intellectuals.

Dr. Saleh Abu Arad presented a reading of the experience of the “Tanuma Cultural Ethnome” forum, theorizing, historiography and application, in a paper that included his own experience through a set of theorizing, historical documentary, and practical applied efforts, including his personal experience through three angles, represented in his theoretical written contributions to how to organize forums, take care of them and raise their level, and his documentary interests in the historical march of some councils and forums in the Kingdom, and his organization and full supervision of one of the cultural forums.
