Taher Alwan

Dr. Taher Alwan is an Iraqi writer with a Ph.D. in Film Studies and Criticism. He has taught at universities in Baghdad, Tripoli, and Kuala Lumpur, boasting over 25 years of experience in criticism and aesthetic studies.

Alwan has penned hundreds of articles as a professional film critic and has won several awards for short stories, including one from the “Al-Youm Al-Sabea” magazine in Paris in 1991. He served as the head of the cultural department for Al-Zaman International newspaper in London from 2004 to 2007 and was the film and cultural editor for Al-Arab newspaper in London from 2017 to 2022.

The author of eight books on short stories and film criticism, he has also published two novels, the first titled “Al-Kaen Al-Efteradi” and the second “Hayat”. He has translated a number of books in the field of screenplay writing and criticism and serves on the juries of several international film festivals. He currently resides in London.
