“Sard Al Thahab” Award: Details of the Second Cycle

Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre announces the second cycle of Sard Al Thahab Award, worth 2 million dirhams.

The Sard Al Thahab Award is divided into 6 categories, including: “Short Story for Unpublished Narrative Works,” “Narrative Storytelling for Published Story Collections,” “Folk Narratives,” “Narrators,” “Visual Narration,” and “Emirati Narration.”

The eligibility criteria for the award include:

1- Candidates must aid Emirati narration’s growth via creative or research work on UAE’s history and present from varied viewpoints.

2- Each candidate may submit only one work for one of the award categories.

3- The submitted work must not have been nominated for another award in the same year.

4- Works must be in Arabic, except for Emirati Narration, which allows submissions in other languages.

5- The narrative or research works can be either published or unpublished. Published works must not be older than five years.

6- The award will not be granted to works previously awarded a major Arab or foreign prize.

7- Compliance with the conditions outlined in the “Application Form” for participation in each category of the award.

8- Resubmit the same work for the award if the timeframe requirement is met, with a formal request.

The award supports Arab storytelling’s folk art annually, launched by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre. The award reflects an appreciation for Arabic storytelling traditions, including folk tales, integral to Arab heritage, culture, and thought.
