In a groundbreaking partnership, the Saudi Literature, Publishing & Translation Commission has joined forces with Manga Arabia, a subsidiary of the influential Saudi Research and Media Group (SRMG), to unveil a pioneering venture – “Transforming Saudi Literature into Manga Arabia.” This ambitious project sets its sights on adapting handpicked Saudi literary gems into captivating manga narratives. Orchestrated by a league of accomplished writers and novelists. The grand revelation took center stage at the Riyadh International Book Fair 2023. It casts a spell of enchantment upon literary enthusiasts.

Dr. Mohammad Hassan Alwan, the visionary CEO of the Saudi Literary Authority and Translation, enthusiastically conveyed that “Transforming Saudi Literature into Manga Arabia is one of our ambitious projects, designed to stimulate literary production in less conventional genres. This initiative aligns with the growing global and local interest in the manga industry.”

On a parallel note, Dr. Essam Amanullah Bakari, the esteemed Editor-in-Chief of “Arab Manga,” illuminated the project’s essence. “This project seeks to promote reading, ignite imagination, and bolster creative endeavors. The manga industry isn’t just about creating animated visuals; it plays a fundamental role in shaping the next generations by instilling hope and ambition. Moreover, it presents Saudi literature in a creative format to a broad Arab and global audience.”

Notably, the genesis of “Arab Manga” magazine traces back to August 2021, a pivotal milestone in the Saudi Research and Media Group’s comprehensive transformation strategy. This groundbreaking publication aims to redefine the media landscape. It seeks to elevate the media and entertainment sectors. Additionally, it aims to transform its platforms into launchpads for local and regional talent.

“Arab Manga” radiates an unwavering commitment to export Saudi and Arab culture and creativity to the world. It meticulously crafts artistic gems inspired by societal culture, and the richness of Saudi and Arab values. The magazine serves as a lodestar for Arabic content enrichment. It beckons Arab families to embark on recreational reading journeys fueled by translated and globally inspired content. Its repertoire features two specialized comics dedicated to Arab and Japanese manga, targeting the young and young-at-heart. Since its inception, “Arab Manga” has etched a trail of glory, publishing over 47 issues and garnering over six million avid users from all corners of the Arab world and beyond through its applications.

With the inception of this collaborative project, the Saudi Literary Authority and Translation Department unfurl their sails.
