The Arab-Chinese Library and Information Experts’ meeting

The 5th session of the Arab-Chinese Library and Information Experts’ meeting, held from December 4 to 7 as part of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF), was inaugurated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Eng. Waleed bin Abdulkarim El-Khereiji. The central theme of the session was “Library Services Transformation Amidst Changing Information Environments.”

The opening ceremony featured notable figures such as Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muammar, the General Supervisor of King Abdulaziz Public Library (KAPL), Arab League ambassador Hala Jad, and experts from both Arab and Chinese backgrounds.

During his inaugural speech, the General Supervisor of KAPL highlighted the meeting’s objective, convened at the request of the Arab League in Saudi Arabia, which aimed to activate cooperation mechanisms in the fields of libraries and data. The primary goal was to enhance the role of these institutions in enriching digital content within Arabic and Chinese libraries.

Furthermore, deputy Director of the National Library of China, Zhang Jun, expressed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for hosting the meeting. Recognizing the accomplishments of Chinese libraries in digital transformation. He advocated for continued and intensified collaboration among Arab and Chinese libraries. Envisioning a collective effort to shape the evolving landscape of library services in response to changing information environments.

The successful conclusion of the Arab-Chinese Library and Information Experts’ meeting marks a milestone in fostering dialogue. Sharing expertise, and laying the groundwork for collaborative initiatives in the dynamic field of library and information sciences. As the participants dispersed, the echoes of fruitful discussions lingered, paving the way for future endeavors. Moreover, the connections made during the meeting are expected to contribute significantly to the ongoing exchange of knowledge and advancements between the Arab and Chinese library communities, fostering a lasting partnership in the ever-evolving world of information sciences.”
